Luana Uluave was ordained in the Presbytery of Utah in 2023. For her, ministry is a second career after teaching English (Grades 6-12) for many years. She currently serves as a chaplain at the Punahou School in Honolulu. Luana is board certified through the Association of Professional Chaplains, and she has worked in hospitals, prison, hospice and education.
Luana is Tongan-American, and her parents met on Oahu in the 1960s when her father emigrated for college and her mother came from Colorado for an adventure as a nurse at a plantation hospital. Luana was born in Denver and has lived in Utah, Hawaii, Chicago, Pennsylvania, and New York City. She and her husband, Jason Miller, moved to Hawaii in 2023, and Jason works as a kindergarten teacher in the DOE in Kalihi. They are parents of three adult children and the kahu of one elderly shih-tzu, Henry.
She is thrilled to be joining CCU as a parish associate and looks forward to many happy times worshiping, learning, and serving together.
