The Reverend Elizabeth “Liz” Leavitt became Christ Church Uniting’s pastor on January 1, 2015. Liz is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.. Her formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oregon and a Master of Divinity Degree from Harvard Divinity School. Following her undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon, and before her divinity studies at Harvard, Liz was an AmeriCorps Volunteer working with immigrant and migrant students in Hillsboro, OR and also served as Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry at Valley Community Presbyterian Church in Portland. Immediately after receiving her M.Div. degree in 2009, Liz served as a Co-Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Waltham, MA, and concurrently held the position of Adjunct Professor of World Religions at Bunker Hill Community College. Subsequently, Liz has served as an Interim Minister with two Presbyterian churches in Eugene, Oregon before accepting Christ Church Uniting’s call to become its minister. Liz is an avid reader and enjoys cycling, writing, cooking and “urban farming”. In addition to these personal interests, Liz has taken a active leadership role in various church ministries and has a special interest in environmental issues. She and her husband, Jason, welcomed son, Oliver, in January 2017. They, along with their two cats live in Kaneohe.
Dana joined the CCU family in the fall of 2013. She is a longtime Kailua resident (lifetime). She and her husband, Jeffrey, have been married for 30 years, and enjoy caring for their rescue dogs, Kona, Angel & Halley. They both attend New Hope O’ahu where she serves in the video ministry for the Midweek & weekend services. Dana & Jeffrey are also involved in the Kailua CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) group that meets monthly to keep skills fresh for the inevitable extreme disaster. Dana is also an Amateur HAM radio operator with the call sign WH6GOD.
Kalua joined the CCU staff in 1995 and has been playing a critical role in our church life ever since, accompanying our congregation and choir as we worship through music. Kalua lives in Kailua and also serves on the Performing Arts Faculty at Kamehameha High School.
Louise Hockaday South is excited to return to Kailua. Raised in Lanikai, she conducted the adult choir at Windward United Church of Christ, and later the teen choir at Kailua United Methodist Church. Under Camille Almy’s direction, Louise soloed here at Christ Church Uniting. She has been the music person at Kahalu’u United Methodist for a number of years. Louise and husband Bill awake to the crowing of Kahalu’u roosters, and go to sleep to the chirping of Ahuimanu frogs. In between, Louise teaches music at area schools & home studio.
